Shopping and Dining Opportunities Nearby

Supermarket Shopping:

Trader Joe’s is around the corner (Westwood and National).

Following National west to Sepulveda, there’s a strip mall.  In there they have a Von’s (supermarket), CVS (24 hour pharmacy), El Pollo Loco (low cost, high quality Mexican), See’s Candies, and Subway. Across the street from that shopping (diagonally) are Hamburger Habit and Baja Bud’s (fresh Mexican).

Just west of the highway: There is a Ralph’s (supermarket).  We tend to go to Ralph’s, as Von’s always takes time to check out and Ralph’s has MANY self-checkout lanes).  Also in that complex is a Rite Aid pharmacy and a Staple’s office supplies).

Whole Foods:  There is a Whole Foods further down on National at the corner of National and Barrington.

Further up Westwood (not on the map below) is 99 Ranch. It’s a mostly Asian supermarket, but with many, many good items. Very fresh seafood, produce, and even a bakery on premises. Here is their website. Their address is: 1360 Westwood Blvd., and here is a map showing their location.

Clothes and other shopping:

We are a 2.2 miles from the Century City, which is a large mall that contains dozens of stores, restaurants, and movie theaters. There is also a health club there, as well as Eataly, which is a gourmet food store that has to be seen to be believed. More on the mall can be found here. Their location is here.

There also many shops in downtown Santa Monica, at both the Santa Monica Place Mall and the Promenade (a four block long pedestrian zone with shops on either side).
There is more information to be found here. Here is a map showing the mall, the Promenade, and event the famous Santa Monica Pier. The good news is the Expo line E line train takes you right into downtown Santa Monica and its famous pier.

There is also lots of shopping in Beverly Hills, especially at the famous Rodeo Drive. Here is more information.

Dining Options (have we got restaurants!):

Niko Niko (Sushi) is the closest, across from Trader Joe’s (also Winchell’s Donuts).

On Overland – North of Coventry:  Nishi Ramen, Aroma Café (Mediterranean)

On Overland – South of Coventry:  Phorage (Vietnamese), Dough Room (Good pizzas and Italian), Kogi Taqueria (Asian, Food Truck).

On Westwood north of Pico (within walking distance): Hoboken (Italian), Pastina Trattoria (upscale Italian), Poquito Mas (Mexican quality fast food).

On Pico – West of Westwood (within walking distance): Back House (Japanese), Nizam (Indian), Chilli Thai (Thai), Jaipur (Indian), La Serenata (upscale Mexican), Gyu-Kaku (Japanese BBQ), Hop Li (Chinese), Bossa Nova (Brazilian)

On Pico – East of Westwood (within walking distance): Apple Pan (Burgers), Maria’s (Italian), Louise’s Trattoria (Italian), The Six (American fare), McDonald’s, Food (High quality market and breakfast/lunch), John O’Groat’s (breakfast a specialty, but also open for lunch – there’s a line on the weekends).

On National (east of the highway): Hu’s Szchewan (Chinese), The Vegan Joint, Simpang (Indonesian), Madre (upscale Mexican), Kotoya Ramen (great garlic ramen)

Restaurants a bit further:

Middle Eastern: Many good Persian restaurants on Westwood, especially in the neighborhood north of Santa Monica (nicknamed “Little Teheran”).  Our favorite is Shamshiri, which was one of the most popular restaurants in Teheran before the revolution.  There is also a good Lebanese restaurant called Sunnin just north of Santa Monica. Here is a map showing their location.

Japanese:  There is a strip called “Little Osaka” on Sawtelle (just west of the 405), just north of Olympic (here is a map).  There are lots of good Japanese restaurants, as well as a Japanese supermarket and other shops with Japanese merchandise for sale.

Century City Mall food:  This is a short drive (or long walk) from here, but has lots of good restaurants and shops.  There are too many to mention, but our favorites are Din Tai Fun (upscale Chinese), and Eataly – which is a market (you can get ANYTHING food related there) and some restaurants and food stalls.

Other areas reasonably close:  Culver City has a bustling restaurant business and it can be reached via the Expo line (and a short walk).  And there’s always Santa Monica and Beverly Hills (too many to mention).
